My students are energetic, polite, and enthusiastic. They are also highly creative individuals with very positive outlooks on life. They help their fellow students without even being asked and are filled with creativity just waiting to be expressed. They all have a desire to learn and grow as individuals that I have rarely seen in the 37 years I have been teaching.
Participation in the Art Program has steadily increased over the years and along with it, the talent and enthusiasm of the students involved.
The community as a whole is very supportive of the students and district but the lack of money does not leave room for some of the purchases we need to make.
My Project
Having my students use the size 0 and 2 watercolor brushes and Shizen™ Watercolor Paper (5 in. x 7 in.) to paint miniature landscapes will help my students to see and produce very fine detail. The watercolor pencils will help them with blending, controlling and layering the paints. The students will also be practicing making changes in proportions in the subjects they see.
Miniature painting is a unique art form, tracing its roots back to the book paintings and illuminated manuscripts of the 7th century.
(Tim Bowers)
The history they will learn will help them understand this form of art as well as the current resurgence of the popularity of miniature painting.
