Every week I have the unique opportunity to interact closely with more than 800 students in grades K-6, each with different skills and attributes. It is a pleasure to spend time with them and watch as their creative minds devour information and generate new ideas.
As an art specialist it is my pleasure to help students cultivate imaginative skills that can be applied to every other aspect of their lives.
These children are creative, uninhibited, happy, diverse, kind and productive. They watch out for each other and patiently work together to address problems. I love being a part of this welcoming school community.
My Project
John F. Kennedy stated that "Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see." Beyond the words that we speak, what kinds of information are we passing along to others? Do we reach out with kindness? Are we looking for ways to uplift others? What does our body language say? What unspoken messages are we sending to ourselves and others?
Messages Matter.
We want to teach students how to be mindful about how they present themselves, how they approach others, and how they interact with the world. In order to increase the positive vibes in our school we would like to purchase a button maker so that students can design and create miniature messages that encourage positive interactions. We want students to think about teamwork, positivity, creativity and kindness. Students will design small images that remind their peers of all the good that can be found in the world, and they will see these positive messages all around the school by turning them into buttons that can be worn everywhere.
