This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Yeah!", "Yes!" and "Woo hoo!" are only a few of the words I hear when it is computer lab time. My students love everything that has to do with technology. Whether I am showing them something on the computer, or I am assessing them on a tablet, my students become more engrossed in that particular activity.

My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have an abundance of.

Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. Their parents want the best education possible for them, but due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have technology at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager and bright kids with access to technology. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of our disadvantaged students, but not enough to provide every classroom with several computers for students to use. These students will be our future leaders. They deserve to have access to technology to enhance their learning.

My Project

I am asking for 2 mini notebooks each with a mouse and 4 protective sleeves, because our school's Language Arts and Math programs have many on-line and technological resources that make lessons more interesting and interactive. Unfortunately, it is difficult to access these lessons because I only have one working desktop computer in my classroom for my students to use. My students would be able to use the 2 notebooks everyday not only for language arts and math, but also for science. They would play many on-line educational games as well. We would also be able to take advantage of our language arts read aloud C.D.'s and look at the stories as we hear them. We would be able to play with the interactive math stories. The pictures would help enhance the vocabulary development of all my students, especially my English language learners. The2 mini notebooks would most definitely enhance our daily lessons.

My students need to be prepared to go to college with far more technology than what is currently available to them.

I feel that having mini notebooks not only exposes them to technology, but also to the world around them. It will allow them to be amazed at what they see and learn, feeding their curiosity. It will certainly shape the leaders of tomorrow!
