Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are working hard to become independent learners. They are beginning to take more responsibility for their own learning, which is a wonderful thing to see. Many of them are second language learners. No matter what prior knowledge they have when they walk in the door every student in my classroom gets what they need to have a successful school year. It's amazing to see how much they grow and change as the year goes by.
We are a growing dual immersion school that works hard to prepare its students for a multilingual and multicultural world.
As this is a relatively new program we are working hand in hand with the community to make our school the best it can be. Both the students and their families are thrilled to see how beneficial learning in two languages can truly be.
My Project
One of our third grade science standards is learning about weather and climate. The students get really excited especially when we talk about extreme weather.
These hands on resources will bring the science standards to life!
The weather kits and tornado makers will be used in small groups to encourage student enthusiasm and promote curiosity for learning.
The wonderful weather and climate themed books will be used when we do our research project. As young scientists the students learn how to use research materials and share information in their own words. This is such an important life skill!
