My 18 kindergarteners entered school full of wide-eyed excitement. For most, this was their first time being exposed to a formal education. At our Pre-K through 5th grade neighborhood school in a growing community in a rural county in Alabama, many of our kindergarten students have older siblings who attend, and even parents who have attended our school. This creates a strong family atmosphere, as well as an even stronger anticipation for the learning that is occurring each and every day.
My Project
My kindergarteners love math! But unfortunately, in our classroom, we have limited resources for them to practice their emerging skills. This year is my first year teaching kindergarten, and I was placed into an empty classroom. My kinders need materials for hands-on, active learning. Pop to Learn and Flip and Solve games will allow small groups of students to practice number recognition and addition. They will practice counting skills with pegboards, tubes, and sliders. A giant ten frame carpet will help young learners' number comprehension. Each of the requested materials will build mathematical knowledge and confidence, and will make learning math even more exciting and fun.
