My Students

Sharing some items is great in kindergarten but little minds need to experiment and experience on their own. We have four calculators in our classroom that are used in math lessons. We either take turns or use them in a center. It would be wonderful to have a calculator for each child to manipulate.

My kindergarten students are five and six years old.

They come from a variety of backgrounds. We are a small school in a large district and have limited funds. We use all kinds on manipulatives from Lego's and blocks to the few calculators and computers we have access to.

My Project

When our math lessons introduce the calculator. We have to share the four calculators we have access to in our classroom. It would be wonderful to pass out calculators to all the children and allow them time to explore. Little inquisitive minds need time to figure new things out on their own.

My children are taught the basics but the reality is that when they get older they need to be able to manipulate a calculator.

I hope to give them the very best "first" experience for all their math concepts and to use all the resources available to them.
