Mini Gear Clocks

Help me give my students their own gear clocks to help them learn to tell time on analog clocks in our Measurement, Time and Graphs unit I teach every year.

My Project

Every year I teach a Measurement, Time and Graphs unit to my 3rd grade students. They really struggle with learning to read an analog clock unless they can get their hands on a clock with gears. The problem is, the only gear clock I have is my large teacher clock I use to teach and model clock reading. The minute and hour hand on gear clocks work together like a regular analog clock. When my students can manipulate the minute hand as they learn to count by 5, 15, 30, 45 and finally minute increments, they see how the hour hand works with it!

These clocks will also help my students when they have to solve story problems involving elapsed time which are very challenging!

I've tried having my students make paper clocks, but without the hands working together like a real analog clock, telling time becomes a real struggle.

These mini gear clocks will be a wonderful supplement to my teaching and their learning to tell time!
