Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of the major concepts in 5th grade science is to understand that matter is made up of particles that are too small to be seen with the naked eye (5-PS1-1). The Fun Things Elementary Microscope Slide Set and Celestron TetraView LCD Digital Microscope will provide concrete proof and investigative fuel to students' understanding of science at a molecular level. These materials will provide a hands-on, first-hand look at interesting items and organisms that will help to promote interest and enthusiastic participation while investigating and learning about this science standard.

One goal for this project is to help students reach mastery of the 5-PS1-1 science standard, which is an essential standard and an important building block that requires full understanding before continuing on to 6th grade content.

A secondary goal for this project is to promote active and investigative inquiry based on the students' observation and critique of the slides.

There will be 105 5th grade students participating in this project. Many of these students have incurred and survived various economic hardships, legal battles, transient housing situations, and other traumas yet they still make it to school every day and try their best. Many of these students have missed out on experiences that they deserve simply because of what life has thrown at them. The microscope and slides will open up a brand-new world where their curiosity can run wild and exploration is limitless.
