My students need an Aromatherapy Oil Diffuser, Social and Emotional games, books and activities on Mindfulness and Growth Mindset to help my students better understand their own mental and emotional health.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are low-income, high poverty dreamers.
We are at a Title-1 school.
Our school is over 95% free lunch. Some of our students depend on our school for needs that cannot be met at home. My students have been identified as students with Special Needs. Although they have to deal with a lot of issues at home I have taught them that they must defend any of their dreams. It is challenging for me to see their struggles ,but I fight to show them that they are capable of achieving anything with a little help. Our students face trauma that effects their learning daily. Their mindsets are fight, freeze, or flight when they deal with issues at school. I strive to teach my students resilience everyday because of their situations at home.
My Project
My students are in need of resources that will help them with their mental and emotional health due to trauma. The impact of these resources will help my school's conversations around mental and emotional health targeting Kindness mattering, peer networks mattering, and mental health resources mattering. After reviewing Born This Way Foundation website I am convinced that the resources listed will be a bridge to youth mental wellness.
All the resources go along with the three key findings of the survey Born This Way Foundation and the Benenson Strategy Group developed.
The Aromatherapy Oils, Diffuser, and books associated with Mindfulness including Meditate with Me and We're all Wonder will help my students remember kindness matters. This will help us build an environment of kindness. Mindfulness will help maintain a moment-by-moment awareness of my students' thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. The Growth Mindset Coach Guide, books on Growth Mindset including We all have Brain Power and Building a Growth mindset community help my students know that peer networks matter. The social and emotional games including Play CBT and my Feelings Game, Kinetic Sand, stress toys, and Listening to my body guide book will help my students know that mental health resources matter. The resources also associate with the five social and emotional learning competency clusters from Pennsylvania State University with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
