My Project
This year we will be using the MindUP curriculum to teach mindfulness and SEL skills. This will include teaching students about their brains and how they influence emotions, etc. MindUP uses animals to explain the three main parts of the brain: pre-frontal cortex (the wise owl), hippocampus (the memory center - elephant) and amygdala (looks out for danger - security dog).
In order to make these ideas easier to digest, we would like to use puppets to help the children understand the concepts in a visual and memorable fashion.
Mindfulness is a valuable skill for all of us, but particularly students who are still recovering from the shared trauma of the pandemic and it's interference with their educational journey. Please consider helping our students develop a strong foundation of awareness and calm in order to be more successful in academics and life!
