Mindfulness With Mind Yeti

My students need access to Mind Yeti, a website which teaches mindfulness. Jumbo Timer allows students to access a quick visual of remaining time in an activity. The game engages students in growing their attention span.

My Students

Our school is a place where students and teachers love to learn and grow. We're located in Lake City, a neighborhood in north Seattle with a high population of immigrant families, mixed-income housing, and beautiful parks within walking view of Lake Washington. Teachers and staff always put kids first, understanding the high needs for these specific students' social and emotional growth along with academics.

Our kids are so eager to learn, that each morning they practically run us down in their excitement to get to their classrooms!

This is a real example of how important being at school- a consistently safe place, with their friends, around teachers who care about them- is to our students. Teachers and staff feel the true urgency to get our students up to grade level in Reading, Writing, and Math and it has paid off! In 2015 we received a School of Distinction Award for proving as a school in the top 5% state-wide for raising academic achievement over the last 5 years.

My Project

School is a busy place, not only in our classroom, but also during more unstructured social times like lunch and recess. Sometimes our students need a little help in shifting gears from one part of the day to the next.

Mind Yeti is an online tool which helps students center themselves in a mindful way.

These colorful narrative sessions help my students recognize their own mindfulness; that is, being aware of their thoughts, feelings, and sensations which in turn promote healthier social-emotional skills and overall classroom atmosphere.

This gift will really make a difference in my students' learning. With this subscription, my students will be able to calm unwanted "hub-bub" and focus their attention to get ready for whatever's next in our busy day!
