My Students

As a math teacher, I get to work with entire grade levels by co-teaching lessons and working with small groups of students. My students are extremely hard working and come into math with a positive attitude. I have worked to instill a growth mindset in my students. This has helped students be open to learning new content and trying new strategies. Despite any challenges students may be facing, they demonstrate perseverance and give their absolute best.

My students are a diverse group who are continuing to learn about perseverance and how to be in control of their emotions.

The students have a lot of expectations and are beginning to learn how to handle emotions. My students are more engaged and demonstrate a stronger understanding of the content when hands-on or visuals are used. The students especially enjoy learning through inquiry, games, and working with peers.

My Project

These materials will be used to have a mindfulness event to create a connection between home and school. Students and families will learn about their brains and emotions. The students and families will take part in a variety of activities that are going to be done both in school and can be done at home. One activity is a glitter jar. Students will need to use their math skills to follow the recipe to create the jars.

As students get ready for the next task or homework they can flip the jar and get their brain ready while they watch the glitter fall.

Another activity is coloring Mandala patterns. The paper supply would be used to copy the patterns for students to do at the event and take home. This helps students brains relax and students can mediate. There will also be calming music and family yoga. In the end students will learn about themselves and what mindfulness activities work best for them.
