This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school in a city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners, and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also from low-income households. However, they are warm, loving, and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.

I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.

My scholars are eager to learn, excel, and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for 19 years, and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.

My Project

Children are returning to school soon full time in person. We have students coming together for the first time in a long time. Kids are excited, anxious and some are fearful as well. These materials are for the school library and will help create mindfulness spaces being implemented. There are two rooms in the library that are being changed to accommodate students' needs. Materials like water boards and brushes will be used to make peaceful and therapeutic areas. The journals will be used for reflective writing.

Having journals and water boards for painting will help the transition of returning to school and help implement mindfulness.

Quiet time and reflection is important in life. These supplies help to foster mindfulness and greater critical thinking and creativity. Thank you for your time, consideration and support of public school children. When you care about them, you care about making a difference and our future.
