Mindfulness Matters

My Students

The students in my physical education classes are kind, hardworking and understand the importance of sportsmanship. They create an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for each other. Students know the importance of physical activity and enjoy the opportunity to learn new activities while accomplishing their fitness goals in a dynamic class setting.

Through a variety of activities, our physical education program helps develop students' confidence, social skills and gives students opportunities to be young leaders in and out of the classroom.

Students transfer the skills they learn in our physical education program to create an enjoyable school climate for all students. They enjoy new challenges and look forward to learning new activities this school year.

My Project

Have you ever started your morning with some mindfulness, breathing, and yoga? It can be very calming as well as a great form of exercise. My students start each day with yoga and stretching. We need yoga mats and additional books on yoga & mindfulness to further our skills.

In today's fast-paced world, my students need additional support to deal with the challenges they face, such as stress and peer pressure.

By donating to this project you will be helping students build mindfulness and yoga skills that will help them for their entire lives.

Using the yoga mats will give students additional pride in their work because they will be practicing as adults do outside the classroom. The mindfulness strategies will help further their understanding of themselves in order to calm and center their thoughts when they are faced with a challenge. They can even perform better on exams by having the skills to settle their nerves and allow them to focus on the project at hand.

Social and emotional learning is just as important as academic learning. Students must have these skills so they can use them throughout their lives. The use of yoga mats and mindfulness books will help my class as they prepare to live in our modern society as well as build a love of healthy exercise and living.
