Help me give my students the gift of mindfulness. This project will help teachers get mindful chimes to help students focus, concentrate and persevere during these challenging times.
My students are AMAZING and full of so much potential! My school is a K-12 school in a very rural area of South Dakota. We live in a very nice, rural area but there are not an abundance of job opportunities and the economy is very much dependent on farming and agriculture.
A large percentage of our students receive free and reduced-priced lunches and their parents are struggling to make ends meet.
We have a weekend backpack program and a local food pantry that has seen a drastic increase in the number of families needing assistance. I know the vast amounts of potential that they have to do good in the world but sometimes it is hard for them to see the opportunities available to them. Our district also serves several Hutterite colonies of English learners and the students there are so eager to learn and better their community as well. We have an awesome student body and staff but sometimes it is hard to meet everyone's needs.
My Project
So many students are struggling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mental health challenges make it difficult to concentrate, learn, and thrive during these times. Mindfulness is one strategy that can help educators teach and students learn. Using the book, Educating Mindfully, teachers will learn how other schools have successfully implement mindfulness practices and strategies. Teachers will gain knowledge to strengthen their own mindfulness practices and in turn teach them to their students. Teachers will have the chance to participate in a book study of the book and learn how to use mindful tools in their classrooms.
The books about educating mindfully, the classroom chimes, and Mindfulness in a Jar will help teachers easily provide mindful moments for students struggling during the school day.
They will also receive support through the book study. Mindfulness is so important for mental health. In a time when teachers do not need "one more thing", these simple practices will add so much without a great deal of effort and time. It is important to provide mindful techniques to teachers so that they can, in turn, teach it to their students. This will help students' mental health, school culture, and the wellness of all at our school during these difficult times.
