Help me give my students a calming corner where they can practice mindfulness and self care...where they can calm themselves by watching fish peacefully swimming by as they listen to the soothing sounds of running water.
My Native American students in my classroom come from a variety of living arrangements, with many of them transient. Some live in foster homes, some with their grandparents, and others live in hotels...some share a floor at night with 6 other children because there isn't enough room for everyone to have a bed.
For many of my students, finding peace and calm in their home environments is not possible.
I would love to provide a calming corner for them, where they can go to breathe and to meditate...or to just have some quiet time for reflection. I like my room to be a safe haven for my students, and my teens truly appreciate the beauty and serenity of my classroom. I would love to provide them with some "cozy things" to snuggle into to feel safe and secure. I want them to be able to pause in their day, watch the calming presence of tropical fish, while listening to running water. Nature and water are so precious to their people...it would be wonderful to incorporate those elements into this calming space.
