This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a group of energetic scholars. They are eager learners who are ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century. They are young people that simply need the resources to stimulate their creative minds.

With support from hard-working families, my students have to balance their rigorous academic work while navigating through the challenges of distance learning while living through a pandemic.

Regardless of the issues they face on a daily basis, they have goals, drive, and most importantly, they are hungry for knowledge. They possess great aspirations for change in their neighborhood, our country, and the world.

My Project

Crisis teaching and learning has been difficult! An overwhelming number of students agree. More than ever, teens are bombarded with school work, social pressures, and little support at home. The most pressing of these issues is teen's mental health and well-being. Most of them have complained that during distance learning they have felt higher levels of anxiety, depression, and sadness.

Having their own copy of this mindfulness journal will allow students a safe space to vent, share, and better navigate their complex emotions.

In my class, my hope is that students engage with English Language Arts, reading and writing, but my most important goal is to support my students in their mental health and well-being. This journal will allow me to do just that!
