My Project
We need various items to assist in implementing more efficient accessible activities to promote compassion and mindfulness in assisting our students to succeed in their learning. We need flex seating and more.
I work in a Special Education setting where my students are battling many challenges within themselves.
A majority of the students are on the autism spectrum. It is imperative to provide our students with assess to various outlets daily. Being dedicated and remaining consistent by challenging students will stimulate and strengthen their minds.
Each activity will teach students to demonstrate kindness by learning to take turns and understand others’ differences by practicing patience with their peers. Students will also learn to be aware of their own feelings so that they can show empathy to others. For example, in Yoga students will learn deep breathing activities, mindfulness, and listening skills. This will help students open their minds to the world around them.
The daily schedule for the movement class consists of Monday Zumba, Tuesday Obstacle Course, Wednesday Yoga, Thursday Step Aerobics fitness, and Friday freestyle dancing/Fun Friday. In the movement class, we will practice deep breathing, stretching, active listening skills, and learning to be patient with others, which will promote compassion among students. Each of these activities will serve a purpose in promoting compassion and mindfulness to help our students succeed to the best of their abilities.
