This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are a full spectrum with a diverse campus in race, culture, socioeconomic status, and interests. Our campus serves approximately 670 students, grades 7th through 8th and between the ages of 12 to 14. Ethnically our students are approximately 87% persons of color and over twenty five percent English Language Learners. Over 75% of our students come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.

Our students are well deserving, bright, happy, funny, curious young people with the drive for knowledge that inspires me to push myself to provide for them.

My Project

Mindfulness and Art go hand and hand. I've noticed over the year in-between major content projects that having a breather or craft project is not only highly engaging but a chance for my students to stop worrying and be hyper focused with their hands. It's been fantastic to see all of them practicing mindfulness without even knowing and I even have students who are not in my class ask for materials and wanting to be in my class. My goal for this project too is for students to have a reflection and comparison of how they feel before and how they feel immediately after working on the project. I want students to realize that creating and being creative helps lift their moods and help with mental and physical health.

Please help me provide my class with another unique, crafty project that they can immediately engage in and lose the worry of the world.

I am asking for materials that my students can make miniature glitter jars that they can color, decorate, give and use as a way to practice mindfulness in the project and shake and swirl around the contents to relive the creation! Each Item like the wire, glitter, glue, vials, necklaces, charms etc. are all geared toward creating something that is unique. I anticipate that this will be a very popular craft with the entire site and expect more than I can handle with demand!
