My Students

Every day, some of my students enter school with additional stress that happened outside of the educational setting. The “invisible backpacks” our students carry become heavy over the course of a school day. Some of my students experience restlessness, anxiety and an inability to focus due to these internal and external factors.

This additional stress can cause a change in the student’s behavior that affect their ability to focus on the learning going on around them in my classroom.

When this happens they need a brain break.

My Project

The overall goal of the mindfulness and sensory area is to help students with self-control in order to reduce student anxiety and restlessness that leads to student misbehavior and lost instruction time. We believe our mindfulness experiences can help calm minds, bodies and hearts so all students can be successful learners.

The items that I am requesting will help with sensory breaks for those students that need frequent movement breaks, channel their energy, regulate emotions and minimize disruptive behavior and improve concentration.

The tools can be used for fine motor skills, calming pressure, tactile exploration, hand-eye coordination and stimulate muscles. The area will provide a calming environment with controlled stimuli which will help the student soothe, focus and organize.
