My Students

Our class is amazing, kind, energetic, hard-working, clever, creative, brave, helpful. There are 25 students who have unique and individual needs. Our classroom is a safe place where we are learning mindfulness and ways to manage our emotions. I love these kids!!

My Project

My classroom is unique and amazing students who each have their own learning style. The students each come into the classroom with different personalities and different obstacles that they are working to overcome. Some have ADHD, anxiety, depression, and sensory processing issues. These students are resilient, but the pandemic has made some of these challenges more of an issue in the classroom. Many of these students struggle with focus because their bodies need to move. In my classroom I am striving to create a safe environment for these students to discover what they need to help them reach their full potential. If they need to move, I want to give them the opportunities and tools to do so that is appropriate in a classroom setting. For my project, I am trying to build a collection of sensory objects that help these students in a variety of ways.

Many of my students struggle with managing their emotions.

Anxiety affects many of my students on a daily basis. As a teacher, I try to teach these students mindfulness to help them manage and work through their anxiety. I need tools to help these students manage these emotions when they come up. I am trying to gather tools to help them soothe, block out noises, meditate, and practice breathing exercises. Having these tools in my classroom will help me give my students resources they need to successfully manage their emotions.
