Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Welcome to our classroom! We are composed of 30 energetic 5th graders in Allentown, Pa. Our school is 95% in poverty, with all students qualifying for free and reduced lunches and breakfasts.
During this time of online learning I would like to work on social-emotional learning.
Our students are home and nervous about what is happening in the world and their own community. I hope to give them lessons on mindfulness and anxiety to ease their nerves.
My students love to take charge of their own learning opportunities. Our class has a variety of abilities. Twenty percent of my students have individual learning plans and twenty percent are currently in tiered interventions.
With a variety of learners in my class, I am looking for the opportunity to meet each student at their own level digitally through read alouds.
My Project
Thank you for your support for my classroom. During this time of COVID19 and distance learning, many of my students are at home with little to no learning resources. This book series by Steve Herman addresses many social-emotional topics that are pertinent during this time.
Teaching students about anxiety, separation, screen time, trauma, mindfulness, etc would be a wonderful addition to my daily lessons.
Read alouds about these topics would help students share their experiences within the safe environment of our digital classroom.
While home for this extended period of time, students from lower income communities need opportunities for growth with limited resources. This book series would be a great addition to our classroom library.
