Everyday, I have three hundred and eighty-one of the cutest kiddos walk in the school doors. They come from many walks of life, speaking a few different languages and know that they can come to Mrs. Nicoles for anything.
The list of responsibilities for our students is ever growing, so it's not uncommon to see students get overwhelmed.
Between school responsibilities and stressful life events, our students need to learn how to create a state of mind where they can learn. Many of our students need to learn how to settle their brains so they can focus on learning.
My Project
The books, activity cards, tone bars and breathing balls will be available for all teachers in the building to use as we implement a school-wide mindfulness practice time each week. All these materials will help our school incorporate the social emotional learning competencies added by the State of Indiana.
Students need to understand how their brains work and how they can help grow their brains in order to be successful.
Meeting our students in brain development produces brain states that increase academic performance and social-emotional well-being.
Providing social emotional learning lessons through literature and activities is always well received by students. The students and staff have been participating in various SEL activities throughout this week and have really enjoyed them and asked for more. Help me give them what they want!
