This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my ELA 10th grade class, we do an extensive amount of writing and reading to prepare for our state standardized tests. This can cause excessive stress among my students especially if writing and reading is not their favorite thing to do or their strongest skill. I have realized it is beneficial to occasionally relieve my students the stress of test prep by doing something different in class.

It was said, "Whimsy is the spice to life."

I want to use these art tools to add a bit of whimsy to my teaching. Instead of completing a typical essay, I can have my students develop an art piece that demonstrates their understanding of the story in class. Project based learning promotes my students creativity. Also, giving my students a chance to express themselves through this medium eases their stress of standardized tests and affirms those who are more skillful in other academic areas such as visual arts.
