it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My little musicians are resilient and creative! They are kind, thoughtful, disciplined, and brave. This makes them excellent musicians! The pandemic has been very difficult for them. Half of my students have not experienced a normal school year without COVID-19 safety procedures. They have had to overcome a year with no singing, playing instruments, or hugs from their friends.
My Project
Many of my students are in distress, and when they come to the music room this distress is taken away for just a moment in their crazy world. We will use all these materials to practice mindfulness and SEL using music as our tool. When we play a circle game with manipulatives such as bean bags, or floor tiles, it teaches them self-management and responsible decision-making. I am Peace is a book that teaches mindfulness and self-awareness. Mindfulness and discipline are essential to overcome the obstacles the pandemic has brought my students. Because the students have lost essential months of learning from the shut down, or weeks of learning from class exclusions, they are behind in their musical learning. These materials will help them overcome this challenge with joy and kindness and practicing SEL that will help them for the rest of their life.
