Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I serve in a K-8th school with 1200+ students. We are a “Back to Basics" traditional school setting with an accelerated curriculum. We are a National Blue Ribbon School with a culture focused on responsibility and respect. Because our students are highly focused on academics our time with students out of class is limited and highly focused.
I am building a calming room with mindful activities to support our students with skills for managing stress and reducing anxiety.
These items - fidgets, pens, chimes, conversation cards, a mini Zen garden - can also be used during classroom lessons. Behavioral studies suggest the mindfulness can also help with memory and paying attention.
