Mindful Moments: Establishing a Calming Corner for Focus and Relaxation.

My Project

In special education, our students are special in every way, and a calming corner can be a soothing space that helps students manage their emotions and regain focus. A comfortable area rug will provide comfortable seating to relax, storage items to help store classroom sensory items, clipboards for individual schedules and coping visuals, wall decor to soften the space, and snacks to help manage moods and prevent hunger related irritability.

Calming Corner provides a safe and supportive environment for students to practice self-regulation, reflect on their feelings, and recharge when needed.

My goal is to allow students a designated space to manage their emotions, helping them to learn to identify and regulate feelings like anxiety, frustration, or overwhelm.

Currently, students go to see their counselor when they need time to manage their emotions or they go outside to another room. Having this in the classroom would be more effective as students can use this area while not missing out on much academic information.
