My Project
Social Emotional Learning plays a vital role in supporting students and their families' emotional wellbeing, promoting mental health, and interpersonal growth. These materials, such as hands-on SEL games, mindfulness books, and journals, will help them facilitate emotional wellbeing and growth in students around them, by providing the opportunity to mentor others and lead Monthly Mindful Groups and school-wide mindfulness challenges. My students will also have the opportunity to teach others and lead groups using information from My Superhero Values, and teach others about the Magical Yet. Students in the intermediate grades will have the opportunity to co-facilitate small groups focused on mental wellness and social emotional learning, leading to a positive impact throughout the school.
Use of interactive games allows students the opportunity to cater to different learning styles, when teaching mindfulness and SEL.
Intermediate students will also organize one school-wide mindfulness or wellness challenge to highlight the importance of mental health and increase awareness through the school, with the use of breathing exercise cards and affirmation cards. When integrated across classrooms and grade levels, tools like mindfulness activities, emotional regulation guides, and reflection journals help students and staff develop essential skills in self-awareness, communication, and stress management to spread throughout the community.
These materials also provide a foundation for meaningful community service projects led by the students in the SEL groups and wellness challenges, empowering students to apply their social-emotional skills in real-world settings that benefit others. Students will also manage and organize Mindful Minute Monday Morning announcements to the entire school, in which they highlight the topic of their SEL and mindfulness groups and provide tips and information about mental health awareness through interactive breathing and affirmations. Together, SEL and mindfulness help build a healthier, more compassionate school environment where wellness is a collective priority.
