My Students
What I love about my students is that they are resilient. Our students come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of our students' caregivers are extended family members such as grandparents, aunts/uncles, and/or come from single-family homes. In addition, many of our students have experienced trauma during development which can create barriers to learning. Therefore, our school has made a commitment to make Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) a priority on campus. Our students' mental health comes first and in return, academic achievement naturally occurs. Our mission is to educate the whole child.
My Project
These materials will enhance our school counseling program. Our Counseling Department is aligned to the American School Counseling Association Model (ASCA). This means as a counselor here at Shell Bank I have several different proactive modes of serving students and their families.
The games will be used during weekly counseling groups and sessions with students who struggle with managing emotions and peer relationships.
In addition, these items will be used during lunch or other free time as an opportunity for students to connect outside of the classroom through organized play.
