it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Mindfulness is an evidence-based way to teach students self-regulation skills and emotional control. While mindful breathing is a staple of my students' daily practice, I would love to help them learn to use all five senses while practicing mindfulness. Enter mindful hot cocoa/tea sipping!
By brewing and drinking hot chocolate/tea right in the classroom, my students will be able to use all five senses as they practice drinking mindfully: listening to the water boil, touching the warm cup, smelling the chocolatey aroma, looking at the swirling colors and finally sipping that delicious hot chocolate!
In addition, my lessons will incorporate Chinese zodiac animals and learning about the history of tea in Chinese culture, as well as mindfulness/yoga practice within Chinese culture. I hope to conduct my lessons to coincide with Chinese New Year. My goal is to purchase all the materials needed to brew hot chocolate in all 3rd - 5th-grade classrooms while teaching lessons on sipping mindfully and engaging all senses. Please help me encourage mindfulness, gratitude, self-regulation, and emotional control all while allowing students to experience a sweet, warm beverage!
