Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We all have "a lot going on," but my students take on more than many average teenagers - some contribute to their family's income, many have jobs, and most have responsibilities outside of school (like childcare, translation, and housework).
A designated space in the classroom for mindfulness, calming activities, and comforting tools would make our classroom environment even better.
The stressors that my students experience should not come at a mental or emotional cost, but they often do. Sometimes we need some strategies to help relieve anxieties. Students could use fidget spinners, mindfulness coloring pages, and other brain break activities when they need a little break. In my classroom there is a coffee and tea station set up where students can pour themselves a mug and enjoy with classmates. Mindfulness and calming tools would be a lovely and welcome addition to this space.
