Help me give my students a perspective of border issues. By reading the book "La Linea" these students will gain a perspective on how dangerous the journey can be to come here and start a new life.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We love our students. We are an inner city school that is Title One funded. They all come from low to middle-income families. Most of them are Hispanic. The students we have in our classroom range from reclassified English Language Learners, students with learning disabilities, and general education students. Many of the students are first generation immigrants.
The students we have all want to do well in school and go on to either college or vocational school.
We want them to succeed and give them all the tools that we have available as teachers for them to be successful. We want them to not only learn the academic content of the classroom but also give them the soft skills necessary to succeed in life. It is important that they learn how to speak and most of all listen to people.
My Project
The United States has been a melting pot since the founding of this country. Our country has experienced waves of immigration over the last two centuries. We continue to be a country for people to seek for themselves and their family a place of refuge, tranquility, and opportunity.
The plight of immigrants is a tale of desperation and hope at the same time.
The novel La Linea tells us the plight of two teenagers, a brother, and sister who seek to find a better place for themselves. By reading the novel, one can empathize as to some of the reasons why they come to the United States.
The Statue of Liberty has for over a century held her torch high up in New York Harbor - we need to remember her words, "...Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
