My students need these instruments to write songs and perform live.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are talented, inquisitive, and ambitious. As they continue to grow each year, new facets of their personalities and musical abilities emerge. Many of my students come from impoverished backgrounds and relish the opportunity to nurture their creative nature. Despite their adverse circumstances, my students continue to thrive daily through artistic expression and their will to succeed. Music is a useful tool to provide my students with exposure to various cultures, customs, and unique experiences.
My students want to not only experience the transformative power of the arts but also want to share their love of the arts with their community.
Our school is located in the inner city and often encounters violent threats and economic strain from the surrounding community. In spite of such factors, my colleagues and I strive daily to provide each and every student with a safe and positive educational environment. While my colleagues and I diligently work to provide our students with consistency, constructive activities, and adequate care; none of this can be achieved without the help of the community. The charge to stimulate the growth of developing minds is a task made easier with the help of many.
Imagine seeing my students smile more than the average child! Studies show that students greatly improve in math, reading comprehension/fluency, as well as verbal/written communication skills, when exposed to music education. Your contribution will enhance my students' self-confidence and self-expression. In addition, my students will enhance their ability to improvise and perform music live. Music is commonly known as a universal language that can heal hearts and save lives.
It is said that music expresses that which cannot be spoken.
Some of my students are non-verbal and only verbalize when singing or dancing. If given the opportunity to play an instrument, perhaps these students will fully flourish as scholars, musicians, and global citizens. The month of March is National "Music In Our Schools" month and through your donation of two violins and two guitars, my students will have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument. Ultimately, four students will be chosen to perform live music as a performance ensemble in and around the Washington, DC metropolitan area during the spring season. The skills my students will gain from music instruction and performing arts, such as improvisation, discipline, determination, self-confidence; will be applicable throughout life. It only takes one act of kindness to change the lives of many. Please add your notes to our symphony. Thank you for your time.
