My students need scissors for literacy and math projects, dry-erase markers for reading and math games and practice, and a class pencil sharpener that works.
The adage "The pen is mightier than the sword" is becoming a reality in our classroom of budding global citizens as students are empowered through literacy and math.
Our school has a richly diverse student population in terms of language, culture, and academic performance.
Students in my class speak a wide variety of languages including Vietnamese, Spanish, Cantonese, Burmese, Cambodian, Tagalog, and Somali. Though with many economic challenges, our students have bright futures because they dream big, work hard, and never give up.
My Project
Though these seem like basic supplies, they form the foundation of all classroom work.
A fast-working pencil sharpener will not only equip students with the basic tools of writing and math, but it also saves precious time that would've been wasted waiting for a laborious machine to hungrily grind their pencil to a stub before ever reaching a suitable point.
Students weekly use scissors as part of word study and math activities.
The fine-tipped dry-erase markers allow students to practice math and literacy games with individual white boards. It is both motivating for them and helpful for me to see how well they are grasping the material.
We eagerly await these basic yet important supplies for our classroom.
Without your concern and action, the opportunities that these supplies provide would not be available to these hard-working students. Thank you!
