My Students
Our high school is what most places call a "magnet school." Students come from all over the city to take a test in order to attend. Our high school is arguably the most racially diverse with about one-fourth of our students being African-American, Asian, Latino, and White.
More than 50% of our students are from families below the federal poverty level.
Nonetheless, we have a 100% college acceptance rate. Our students work hard, but they need more than what the district provides.
My Project
We are halfway through the school year and find ourselves needing a refresh of our electronic equipment. We have used the supplies from previous DonorsChoose projects so much and so often that we need to replace some of the worn out products.
We need additional phone cables and extension cords so that students can charge their phones instead of playing with them in class.
My students are willing to yield their phones since they can leave the class with fully charged batteries.
The multiple port adaptors and power strips round out our request. We need an all-purpose adaptor for the various now-and-then items we use in class, such as an external DVD player. Finally the power strips are needed to ensure that we don't overload an outlet. (Regrettably that has happened).
