My Project
Students will benefit from an opportunity to incorporate STEM concepts as they design a tower/building that can withstand seismic forces. The students have been studying geologic forces created by plate tectonics including s-waves and p-waves. A shake table allows them to demonstrate building skills. We will use popsicle sticks, pasts noodles, marshmallows, and tape to build a structure that can hold a golf ball up in the air.
The earthquake simulation shake table is a great way to demonstrate the forces that earthquakes put on building. Science, technology, and engineering are important skills to build through hands on activities.
