Middle School Robotics: STEMing the Tide

My Students

It is amazing and a blessing to be a middle school teacher. Though I have been teaching at this level for 25 years, it has been a joy and pleasure working with this age group. Eighth graders are so much fun to be around and to teach because they still have an incredible appetite for learning, trying new things without hesitation, and are open and honest about their feelings and experiences. Many of my students come from economically challenged families and as a result have had little to no exposure to engineering, testing and redesign, or coding.

My Project

Student learning is enhanced through authentic problem-solving and hands-on work which robotics and coding emphasize. The materials including the Rokit Smart Robot purchased through this program will facilitate our ability to bring these robotic materials and software into the classroom and enhance our ability to support and develop authentic STEM related curriculum in our middle school.

The Rokit Smart robots provide an excellent opportunity to vary the complexity of engineering challenges and will enable me to reach all student learning levels in my class.

We use to have a STEM Robotics class at our school and students loved the class and the engineering challenges that came within the curriculum. Unfortunately, we lost program funding and are in desperate need of robotic materials that are a focus of the class.
