This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our district has an annual Battle of the Books competition to promote independent reading. The committee in charge works hard to select engaging and diverse titles for students to read.

These students love to read, but our campus budget is stretched thin.

The Battle of the Books is something that these kids look forward to every year and they work hard to be prepared. For my students to be successful, they need to have enough copies of the Battle Books to pass around the team.

Participating in Battle of the Books motivates students to read a variety of genres and authors they may not have picked up otherwise. Students are developing not only their love of reading, but their understanding of different genres and experiences. This helps them learn more about the world and about themselves as readers.

The books I am requesting will be used with our 7th and 8th grade teams. A wonderful bonus of this project is that after the Battle is done, we will be able to use the books for classroom literature circles! Two projects for the price of one!
