Daily it is my goal to create meaningful learning opportunities for my students. Students use a variety of tools and strategies to make their learning more engaging as well as something that they will remember beyond an assessment. For example, students will use the mini whiteboards, rulers, and calculators as practice/learning tools during our notetaking and practice lessons. By creating partner/group work/learning games, students will also have an opportunity to problem solve and teach each other. No two days are ever the same in our classroom!
For this project, my goal is to increase student learning and engagement.
At times, students are not motivated to practice or learn a difficult concept. As a result, having a variety of learning tools is one way to encourage their learning as well as to build their confidence. Incorporating incentives is another way to increase their learning. For example, MATHIA is a computer component to their textbook that students are not overly fond of completing. However, by having a variety of incentives (like treats) students are more inclined to complete their work with the program and other learning tasks.
My students are special because they are part of my classroom and my learning community. I always stay organized and keep supplies ready for them, so that they have the tools that they need to succeed. For example, bins to organize their notebooks and markers are ready in my classroom. They are lucky to have a teacher that works tirelessly to plan engaging lessons to help them to become stronger mathematicians and people. School is not always easy, in particular learning math, but I constantly try to increase their self-confidence in terms of life and in terms of the content standards. I look forward to talking with and working with them each day!
