My Students

Our world runs on computers and the careers of tomorrow will require technical knowledge and creativity. Learning about computer science can be intimidating but it is made easier through the use of innovative technologies like Makey Make. This project will show our students anyone can code!

Our students are eager and excited about learning.

New technologies are especially helpful in teaching material that may be difficult for our kids. Sometimes our families aren't able to financially provide everything they would want for their children. As a school in the Research Triangle there are many careers and businesses that will demand strong technology skills and we want our students to be competitive and have a bright future!

My Project

The Makey Makey is a computer board that basically takes over a computer keyboard. By forming a circuit with conductive materials (like bananas, potatoes, aluminum foil, or their hands), students can interact with a computer like never before. This piece of technology and the Arduino can be used for multiple projects by multiple students at once creating a powerful learning tool for group work, electronics, and creativity. Since it is reusable it will allow us to continue to explore and learn with future students. The Makey Makey and the Arduino embed scientific concepts, such as how electricity and circuits work and lays the foundation for more complicated computer programming. These materials will also further develop our Makerspace in the Media Center at Githens!

These programmable electronics will allow our students to explore and learn about the power of computer programming through individual and group projects.

Our students will see that they can accomplish goals as a group and develop unique solutions through the use of computer technology. They will also learn to communicate better with each other as they build their projects and troubleshoot along the way!
