My passion for drone flying has helped me start a new club at the middle school in which I teach 8th grade science. The Flying Bluejays Drone Racing Team of Caruso Middle School is for all students in 6th - 8th grade. This past season our team participated in three events, competing against two high school teams. The middle school students were winning races!
The Drone Racing Team objective is to bring student-centered, technology-driven learning opportunities to all students at Caruso Middle School.
Students who join the club have an opportunity to be a pilot of a drone in a race-type setting. The goal of each pilot is to complete a course as soon as possible and reach the finish line with the best score. The courses are designed, tested and run by the students. Pilots are part of a team and the entire team works together to help the pilot win the race. Together each team trains and develops a race-time plan.
