Help me give my students the opportunity to excel more at their musical abilities with binders, reeds, and mallets. After Covid and sending students home with supplies, many of my resources became depleted for music class, including the items requested.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have a strong mix of students who represent cross-cultural and cross-economic backgrounds. My school requires all students to take a music class and they are so eager to learn! I have created music classes where the students take a strong leadership role and hold each other accountable for the success of the class, and they have surpassed any music students that I have ever had! These kids are kind and caring, they look out for each other and respect others' ideas. Sometimes, I can't believe that I get paid to do something so fun and I just love working with them! I usually start classes by asking a random question about themselves, e.g. what did you do last weekend, what is your favorite super power, what vegetable do you hate most of all, etc. I forgot to do that yesterday, for instance, and one of my fifth graders came up to me after class, while I was sitting at my desk, and asked me how my weekend was and that he missed being asked that today. It's these little things that make my job so nice!

My Project

Since the return of the students to the classroom after the effects of Covid, many of our classroom resources for band and choir became depleted after we sent students home with supplies. As a middle school band and choir teacher, I am responsible for teaching almost all of our students in the school, which means my budget becomes thin because of all the numbers of students that I teach. The binders, reeds, and mallets that I am requesting would go a long way in helping to replenish what we lost and to help continue the excellent education that our students receive at my school!
