Middle School Baseball Tournament Needs Equipment

My students need soft baseballs, foam bats, safety helmets and gloves to properly learn the sport of baseball.

As the nurse and middle school physical education teacher at an inner city school, we are in great need of some durable outdoor gym equipment. As joint members of our school health council, we are working together to improve health among our school students. We are attempting to increase exercise among our students through a love of socialized sports. We just completed a middle school kickball tournament that generated phenomenal excitement among our students and staff. We would like to duplicate this excitement through the teaching of another sport. As the school nurse, I noted that I had fewer incidents and injuries while the students were participating in training for the kickball tournament. Students were actively involved in planning their team lineups and strategies. We hope to duplicate this same success with the promotion of another tournament in the school. We would now like to tackle the sport of baseball. We have no equipment and would like to expose our children to new team sports.We are in need of bats, helmets, balls and gloves. When the weather is nice, Mr. Greene, our middle school physical education teacher, can take our students outside and teach them the sport. The necessary skills will be taught during gym periods and then our middle school classes can again plan another tournament. Not only will students be getting exercise but they will also be learning socialization skills through working as a team. Additionally, the younger members of the school community would be able to use the equipment during recess. This would provide a more structured form of socialized recess at Lea School. Hopefully, with the help of baseball equipment, injuries and bullying incidents would be decreased during organized recess periods. Any donation is appreciated. We would love to recreate the enthusiasm and excitement that school experienced as a result of our kickball tournament.
