My Project
At our school we want students in grades 6 through 8 to have the opportunity to learn the engineering design process by participating in a design challenge. The sixth graders will design and build earthquake safe buildings, the 7th graders will design and build paddle boats, and the 8th graders will design and build mousetrap cars. They will participate in semifinals competitions and then the top competitors will participate in a finals competition held at the high school.
The glue I am requesting is the most costly item needed to implement the 6th Grade STEM project.
My goal is that students will not only learn valuable engineering design skills, but also skills related to communication, problem solving, and resilience.
Our students are special in that they come from diverse backgrounds. Many are english as a second language learners and come from lower income families. When given the opportunity to thrive our students rise to the challenge.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
