Help me give my students a mid-year supply restock of classroom essentials that we use, if not daily, many times a week that include lap desks, pencils, crayons, markers and more.
My students are rock stars who are curious, funny, and unique. They are all active six- and seven-year-olds who like to move, have options, and need flexibility. They like to move around the classroom during independent and partner work. They like to spread out on the floor with a good book but the cold linoleum floor is a bit uncomfortable. They enjoy engaging with other students in the class and like to work in quiet corners together but need a bigger work surface than just a traditional clipboard allows. They are curious, motivated, hardworking, funny, and kind individuals who need a classroom that does not limit these wonderful traits while also promoting choice and flexibility.
My Project
We are hitting the mid-year point of this school year and are in need of restocking of some of our essentials.
We use these items daily and could use a refresher!
The lap desks would increase our current supply of 12 to 24 which would allow every single student to be able to use them at once. This would be especially helpful during partner and whole group work! This then allows students to work on the rug or around the room and get up and moving away from just the desks. The lap desks provide endless options for flexible seating and movement.
The other supplies just replenish our current supply. The multicultural markers and crayons are of great priority and importance. Drawing daily, students love the different skin tone options and really includes everyone. This is especially important this month and next as we learn biographies and about all sorts of people of importance that come from many diverse backgrounds! We currently are learning about MLK Jr., Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, George Washington, Cesar Chavez, Greta Thunberg, and many more!
The whiteboard/dry erase markers are used daily in math rotations and Fundations where we work on phonics and word formation.
The construction paper and tape are used for projects and visuals.
The lamination sheets are used all the time be it for math games, laminating new, updated word rings for students, or laminating materials to be sent home for school-home relationship building.
We want our classroom to continue to thrive. These items will help us!
