This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is made up of students from a variety of backgrounds. I have students from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and various parts of the U.S. Fourth grade is an exciting time, and each of my students brings something new and creative to offer to our class community.

The school itself sits in a neighborhood that is considered historic and is home to many ESL families.

Our school is a Title I community that desires to serve and grow our students.

My Project

We've reached the point in the year where certain materials are dried up (markers), broken (stools), or we've just simply run through them all (index cards). My class has welcomed 3 students in the past month from a Spanish speaking country and we have been making flashcards right and left to pick up English vocabulary, and we have used dry erase markers to practice writing skills to the point where we need more of each. Not only do these items help my newcomers, but being able to show work quickly or use a help signal on the white board is beneficial to everyone.

I have been huge on flexible seating since beginning my career, and as things are slowly creeping back to normal, some of my stools need replacing.

I have to say, students have been more excited to see the stools this year than ever before.

We also have plans to publish a book of original poems (and at the rate these writers are going, maybe a second on animal adaptations) and desperately need fresh markers!
