My Students

"I look forward to 7th period every day!" a video announcement student told me recently. This student is one of 20 that I have in my video announcements class. These students learn the basics of video journalism, such as anchoring, editing, filming and studio production.

Our middle school is a beautiful school that has a wonderful staff!

In order to participate in video announcements, which we call GV TV, students must fill out an application. Once they are chosen to participate, they must keep good grades. Video announcements are produced every day during 7th period (the last period of the day) and played the next day (on classroom smart boards) at the beginning of 3rd period. Students have just 45 minutes to record the anchors, film commercials and public service announcements. Working on deadline is one of many skills they learn in this class. This class is a stepping stone to the more-advanced video announcements class offered at my high school.

My Project

Students will be using this Microsoft Surface Pro on a daily basis to edit and create commercials, public service announcements that include a variety of students, staff and members of the community. Students will also use the Surface Pro to produce videos for the end-of-the-year video awards ceremony. Having this computer will improve the overall quality of videos they are producing.

Donating to help fund technology for GV TV will increase academic and career opportunities for these students.

I have witnessed first-hand that students who have access to quality technology tend to be more motivated to use that technology effectively. The ultimate goal of video announcements is to improve students' technology skills and to perhaps spark an interested in some day pursuing a video journalism career.
