This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are diverse in every way--race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, preferences, and personalities. Each one brings a unique contribution to my classes and never fails to surprise, amaze, and delight me each day. They work together to achieve academic and personal goals.
My students are the stars in my sky.
Every day, they inspire me to be a better teacher and make me smile at their ingenuity, creativity, and unique ways of thinking. In my classroom and beyond, I watch them shine.
My Project
In my classroom, there are two laptops that do not have any word processing or presentation software on them. My students need these programs to create documents, such as essays, research reports, and presentations, so that they can gain more experience using these digital applications and creating projects that are neat, creative, and accurately reflect their knowledge.
Having Microsoft Office on these laptops gives my students access to Microsoft Word which will allow them to type, revise, and publish their essays and other written assignments in a neat, easy to read format.
Using Microsoft Word allows students to see and correct grammatical errors which will make their writing skills stronger. It also allows them to practice typing skills which they need to successfully complete state standardized tests.
With Microsoft PowerPoint on these laptops, two more students will be able to create presentations that showcase their knowledge and allow them to exercise creativity and critical thinking skills when deciding what information to include in the presentation and how to best present it to their peers.
Microsoft Publisher will allow my students to create documents other than those available on Microsoft Word to demonstrate their knowledge of specific content. These alternative templates will give my students more choices when choosing how to present their knowledge to their peers and give them more opportunities to use creative thinking skills and critical thinking skills. Without these programs, these laptops are underused, and my students need access to all available technology in order to be successful in and out of the classroom.
