Help me give my students microscopes to be able to see the hidden world around us. Micrscopes will help bring evidence into view for forensics class as they collect trace evidence they can not see.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a public school in a very large school district in which resources are very limited. My school is in a low-income area of a very large city. Our school's free and reduced-price lunch program is over eighty percent. I usually purchase most of my supplies at the dollar store in order to complete inquiry type labs. My students deserve a chance just like the magnet schools in our district, to engage in STEM. STEM is the new focus in science, technology, engineering, and math!
The microscopic world is the bases of all living organisms and is the building blocks of life and a way to collect evidence that is not seen by the naked eye.
I would love to show the microscopic world to my students as this is a big part of biology and forensic science. Without the proper tools in science, I am not able to bring this world alive. Please help my students uncover this world around us.
My Project
This project will open the minds to the next doctor or scientist. The microscopic world is so difficult to comprehend, and these microscopes will be a new light into the hidden world around us. Students will be able to create their own slides as well as observe prepared slides that they have never seen.
The idea that students can see into a cell (human, animal, plant or bacteria) is mind-blowing.
Cells that show cell division and chromosomes may spark an interest to the next DNA technician or doctor. Biology is awesome as well as forensics from looking at hair and trace evidence such as fibers.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
