I teach a group of hard working students who are always eager to explore further to enhance their learning. Using their microscope, I would love for my students to see premade slides as well as live microscopic amoeba, paramecium, euglena and volvox. I would show the premade microbes slides and wow students with live microbes so they can compare and contrast.
I would like for my curious students to get their first-hand experience with the live microscopic world around them.
My Project
I love to see the awe when my inquisitive students explore something they can't imagine exists. Teaching them about microbes using theory is not a very long lasting learning. Compare and contrast always enhances students' learning and they retain that learning for a very long time. First, I want to use the magnifying glass to analyze the microbe features. Then, I want students to compare a pre-made slide of a microbe, such as an amoeba, with a live sample of amoeba, so they can start to questions, such as, how does it move, eat, and reproduce. This research-based learning answers some questions I want students to answer. Seventh grade curriculum focuses on amoeba, paramecium, euglena and volvox. Finally, I want to use the mitosis and meiosis slides so students can compare the cell reproduction.
